Subsistence allowance claim

My employer gave me a subsistence allowance for local travel. But they have shown it under Code 3713 (other allowances) instead of under the subsistence allowance code. The subsistence allowance field on the tax return is greyed out and so is the other allowances field. How do I claim my expenses?

What rate does your employer reimburse you at? Do they use a daily rate?

Yes it's a daily rate of R196 a day.

Do you mean under "other deductions" expense code 4017 is greyed out?

Yes. 4017 (Expenses against local taxable allowance) and 4016 (Other deductions) are greyed out.

You need to ask your employer to reissue you with a new IRP5 reflecting your local subsistence allowance under code 3704. This will enable you then to claim related expenditure under code 4017.
