Tessa says: 8 March 2016 at 13:38 I have a contract with an employer for a minimum of 40 hours per month from April 2016-September 2016. They should be paying tax for me on this. I will likely be doing some other freelance work during this time (and for the remainder of the tax year). Will I have to register as a provisional taxpayer for the freelance work? And as a provisional taxpayer, when do I need to register for the 2017 tax year, and will I only have to pay tax twice per tax year, or still a PAYE amount per month? |
TaxTim says: 9 March 2016 at 10:53 Yes, you need to register as a provisional taxpayer and pay tax twice a year on your freelance income. Please read our blog on What is Provisional Tax? How and when? Am I a Provisional taxpayer? You would need to register as a provisional taxpayer when you start earning freelance income from which no tax is withheld. You will have a PAYE amount each month as well only if you earn a "salary" whereby tax is deducted by your employer. Please Register for TaxTim and let us assist you with your provisional tax returns and tax return filings. |
