First of all thank you for providing this helpful service.

I have been working as a shop assistant since February doing shift work. I earn approx R4200-R4800 pm. I am doing some extra work part time which will provide an additional income of a maximum R3000 pm. It is related to the shop but not strictly part of my normal shop duties. Does this mean I will have to pay tax on my earnings in total?

Thank you ;-)

Thanks very much for the kind words!

Unfortunately the answer is yes, you will have to pay tax on all the income earned. However on R7 800 per month the tax should work out to:

Take home pay = R 7800 - R 450.66 - R 78
Take home pay: R 7271.34 :)

If you have medical aid and a retirement annuity fund/pension fund then this will decrease how much tax you pay as well.

You can have a look at our salary tax calculator - https://www.taxtim.com/za/SARS-income-tax-calculator.php to see how I got to that amount.

Thanks for the question!
