Medical expenses not payed by medical aid?

Last year when I submitted my expenses I received 30% back in returns from SARS. This year when I complete my return with expenses R10 431 it gives me a return of R833 please advise - there are 4 people on my medical aid and my company pays 2/3 of the premium. My annual income is R228 000

This is because in order to qualify for any deduction of out of pocket medical expenditure the amount has to be greater than 7.5% of your taxable income, unfortunately with your income your other expenses are too small.

Thanks Tim - can I ask another question can a person submit medical expenses out of this pocket if he does not belong to a medical aid scheme but is a taxpayer and is in the bracket to submit returns

Yes you can, SARS will determine what portion of this can be deducted, but you would enter this in the medical aid sections of your income tax return under 'amounts not recovered from medical aid'
