How do you know SARS is done with Verification?

Hi Tim

I have submitted 3 tax returns this tax season for assessment (2010, 2011 and 2015). SARS had selected me for verification for the 2010 and 2011 assessment years and I have consequently submitted the required documents for review via SARS eFiling.

SARS has issued correspondence for the 2010 assessment year saying "We refer to the verification of your assessment for the 2010 tax period. Please note that no adjustment has been made to this assessment". They also issued an additional assessment (ITA34) for the 2011 assessment year and the initial amount due to me has not changed.

I think the issue was with an "alleged" understatement on my tax returns but it would seem they were able to reconcile the information provided by me and what was on my IRP5's. Does this mean that the verification process is over? (given the different correspondence for a similar issue)

Yes it would appear so, they should also send you a Completion Letter for 2011, however the unchanged ITA34 will be enough. If you are due a refund at any point then it should be paid in the next few days.

Oh thank you so much Tax Tim, your response was spot on. I received my refund (14 grand) about 5 days later after your response.
