If you are earning under R63 556 for the entire 2012 tax year then you won't need to register. However in most cases the employer does take off 25% of the amount paid to you and pays it over to SARS which you will get refunded at year end. Are you under the threshold?

Hi my earnings before UIF is about R6300.00. So I am not sure if this is under R63 556 for the entire tax year. Would you calculate and please inform me.
TaxTimsays: 29 October 2012 at 14:03
Your employer should be taking off 25% based on that amount on earnings. How long are you temping for?
Sandysays: 29 October 2012 at 15:04
Hi I am temping with council from December 2010 till May 2011 also from August 2011 till 9 January 2012 and May 2012 till current - 15mths in all

Have the council made you sign anything saying they are not withholding tax? You would either have signed something or they should have been deducting PAYE. I suggest going to your HR person and asking why they have not deducted tax. Let me know and then I can assist from there?

I should have mentioned that I am working in council as an agency temp ie Affirmative Portfolios so I will ask them why they are not deducting. I will let you know what they say.
