Can I claim medical expenses incurred that I didn't get back?

My wife gave birth during this tax year, and medical aid didn't cover the expense of doctors, can I claim this?
The Doctors bills we're 400% above medical aid rates. We got a small portion back from medical aid and then a portion back from gap cover.

This query relates to question 18135 "Please enter the amount here. " in the Medical section.

You can claim the amount that you paid personally that was not reimbursed by your medical aid or GAP cover.

If you submitted all your medical bills to your medical aid, the amount you paid personally which was not refunded by your medical aid, should be reflected on your medical aid tax certificate.

Should you not have sent it to the medical aid, the expenses is still claimable, but you will need to enter it manually under the section asking about out of pocket medical expenses.

Please see our Medical Expenses & Tax Guide for further details.
