Under review by SARS?

I live with my Parents and have been running a very small business for about 6 years now, by small I mean very small less than R35 000 turnover per year. I have been doing my eFiling all the time and have never had any problems from my side and from SARS' side. I have just done my 2013 returns and the only difference from last year is that I have made my business even smaller with less turnover and profit, now suddenly I receive a mail saying I am under review and I must submit supporting docs. Why suddenly this? And what supporting documents must I give them? I have no proof of income other than the book that I write my daily income and I buy the few stock that I do need from someone private. The only other documentation I have is postal, repairs, stationary and printer ink. I have sent them this expenditure documents. I am very confused and feel like it's the end of the world! Please help!

Often SARS randomly audits individuals, this is more a verification check than a real audit. You just need to provide them with all the documentation used to prepare the information on your return and everything will be in order.

Hi Tim, thank you for that answer, if you say all documentation, I suppose that means all expenditure and income, but how do I provide documentation for income if I only write my daily income in an informal book?

You would need to supply SARS with copies of these pages and perhaps a covering letter stating that this is the only evidence, other than bank statement - which you could also provide, that you have.
