Do I still pay in when I received SMS from SARS saying they owe me after last return?

Hi! Your website is very informative. I was requested to submit outstanding returns for last 5 yrs via telephone.
I however updated the returns and then was asked to pay a penalty of R12500. A few weeks later I received an ITSA- statement of account stating I owe R50 404-00. I however settled the amount as my wife received disability from her insurance. The collection department stated that I still owe them the penalty of R12500. The ITSA only reflects interest on late payment and no penalty. I am paying them R1000 per month, meanwhile I submitted my last return on 7 August 2013, and received an SMS that SARS owes me R4300. Now what about my outstanding penalty? Do I continue paying as I have nothing in writing?

Does your payment of R1000 per month reflect anywhere on eFiling? Did you ever receive a penalty letter?

I cannot get through to efiling and I did not receive a letter regarding a penalty. I was informed telephonically by the collection department (SARS)

I would contact 0800 00 7277 to get something in writing about this as you should have received a letter. However if you did get a call from the collections department then it most likely will continue until paid off. Did they provide banking details, or how are you paying?

Yes, they did provide me with banking details. Meanwhile I am trying to get into eFiling as I received a SMS stating to view ITSA on eFiling. Thanks for your help and your site is like magic.
