Do I pay a penalty if I register for tax now only, after working for 7 years?

Hi tax tim.
I just want to know if I will pay a penalty if I've never registered for tax and have been working for 7 years but want to start doing my tax this year?

If you have not registered, but SARS has a record of your income then you will face penalties for non-submission unfortunately.

Okay thank you. My salary is R10,000 before deductions but after deductions of tax, medical aid, gym and my cellphone contract, I end up with about R7,100. So how much do you think I will be penalised for and since I haven't done my tax for 7 years and will now only register? And will I end up getting anything back?

It would be very difficult to determine the actual penalty as SARS has changed their system over many years, so unfortunately I cannot answer that question 100%. It is best to address the issue now and get tax compliant as soon as possible as some penalty charges accrue monthly. Good luck!
