Parents over 80yrs old, income of 350K/yr from rentals, do they need to pay tax?

  Written by Marc

My parents are over 80. The only income they enjoy is from 5 rented cottages on the property where they collect on average ZAR 6000/month. This equates to a total income of around ZAR 350K/yr. They claim they do not need to pay tax on this nor need to complete a tax return!? Is this true?!

They are cashed up, do not have or service any debt. The only significant asset they own is the single property on which they both live and rent the cottages out.

Can one delete / cancel a SARS dispute once started?

  Written by Marc

I was recently audited by SARS and was unsure as to how they got to their results. As I was considering a dispute and unsure about the process I clicked on the dispute button, and a blank dispute was automatically saved.

I have now decided not to dispute, how can I delete this blank dispute so that the case will proceed?

SARS tells me that I received a fringe benefit filed under Code 3808 and that I now owe them

  Written by Marc

SARS tells me that I received a fringe benefit filed under Code 3808 and that I now owe them R15 000! I do not receive any benefits as such and Payroll confirms that there is no error on my IRP5.

Is there something that I have not claimed or acknowledged?

I do not have any supporting documents

  Written by Marc

Hi Tim

I have started submitting my Tax in 2012. Now they asked for 2011. I was only working about 6 months in 2011. When I called my previous employer he said he cant give me any documents as he has lost it all in a robbery. SARS is asking for supporting documents for 2011 and I don't have anything (not even medical aid etc).
What do I do ?

Thank you
Lara

  Written by Marc

Ok when I went and got my tax reference number, the lady that helped me said it's a temporary number and that I will receive another one in the post. It's been 2 months gone by and I didn't get anything as yet. I just want a tax reference number. I got a temporary one only. Is this the one I need always or do I have to wait longer for another one? I don't want to pay tax.

AVS for first time tax payers

  Written by Marc

Hi Tim.

I submitted my first tax returns this year. Was selected for audit even though I only claimed 2 month's worth of tax, submitted my IRP5 and waited. I see I have the AVS verification as SARS status. Is this normal for first time users or do I also need to go into a branch? I have not received a letter requesting any proof of banking yet.
