Hi there, I need some advice. I currently work full-time but will be going freelance from April. I have already started some freelance work on the side, and wanted to know how I should go about paying tax for this? Most of the Freelance work I am doing is on an online website (for countries all around the world) and I transfer the funds into my bank account each month. No tax is taken off of this by the website, so I wanted to find out how I should go about paying tax, would it be a monthly or y...

I own two rental properties from which I earn rental income. This is my only source of income - I do not earn a salary. In the 2021 tax year I let one of the properties' monthly rental pay directly into my long-time girlfriend's account (R7500 per month). The monthly levies, rates and agency fees (deductible expenses) were still paid from my account. At the end of the tax year, my girlfriend paid the lump sum amount (R7500 X 12 plus interest) that had accumulated in her account back to me.

Hi Tax Tim,
I am a Personal Service Provider (PSP). My client withholds PAYE at 28% in the name of the PSP i.e in my company's name and not me personally, as an individual taxpayer. This concerns me because the PAYE tax credits sit in my company's name, but from an individual perspective I have not paid any tax on the salary I withdraw from my company.
The PAYE refund, if any, will be paid into my company. How do I show the tax on my salary in my individual tax return? If I...

In the past SARS needed to prove that a taxpayer had committed a tax crime “willfully and without just cause” but the legislation has just been changed. The court can now find you guilty of a tax crime even in cases of negligence or even in a case where the taxpayer may have made a mistake.
The amended law separates non-compliance into two groups: the first is where the taxpayer’s intention is not considered, and the other group is where the taxpayer’s intentio...

What is an IRP5?
An IRP5 is the employee's tax certificate that is issued to him/her at the end of each tax year detailing all employer/employee related incomes, deductions, and related taxes. The employee uses it specifically to complete his/her income tax return for a specific year.
Do I need an IRP5?
Yes, you do if you were employed during the tax year.
Can I submit a return without an IRP5? OR Am I able to submit returns without my IRP5? OR Are you able to submit without the IRP5?...

In January 2018 I stopped working as a full time employee and for the 2018/2019 tax year I did various things (including foreign travel and work) and earned different kinds of incomes. I did not register as a provisional taxpayer as at that stage I really did not know how the year was going to pan out and if I was going back into full time employment again. I would like to settle any tax I may owe for the 2018/2019 year, however with my different incomes, working out the country for more than 18...

I have a Pty Ltd that was registered in February, the Provisional Tax payments must be made in April and October. SARS says I must make tax payments from the 2021 period. The date of liability for provisional tax: 2020/05. When, according to that, is the first time I have to submit tax reports, was it this past April 2020 already? Also, when is the "major" tax submission due, not the provisional one, but the annual one? I would like to do it with TaxTim as my company is small.
I was...

If you have shares (financial instruments) , there is important information on your IT3C tax certificate which needs to be included in your tax return.
