						If you're a salary-only employee (i.e non-provisional taxpayer), your tax filing deadline is 20 October 2025. But, if you do fall into the provisional taxpayer category, your deadline extends to 19 January 2026.
However, it's super important to note that if you were auto-assessed, then your deadline is 20 October 2025 even if you qualify as a provisional taxpayer.

						SARS 2024 tax season dates:
15 July 2024 to 21 October 2024: individual (non-provisional) taxpayers
15 July 2024 to 20 January 2025: provisional taxpayers
If you earn less than R500 000 in a year, and fulfill a series of complicated criteria, you may not have to file a tax return in 2024.
However, we advise you to take GREAT CARE here, and understand your duties properly, because if you don't, you may suffer for it later on.

						SARS is warning that those who fail to submit their tax return on time, will face harsh penalties. The period of leeway which applied to 2021 has now passed.
SARS announced a change to their legislation in December 2021 whereby they would levy administrative penalties to taxpayers who missed the filing deadline for one or more tax returns. Prior to this change, taxpayers only paid penalties when two or more returns were outstanding.

						All eyes were on Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, when he delivered his maiden budget speech to South Africans yesterday. Taxpayers breathed a sigh of relief when he announced that there would be no major tax hikes. This was welcome news for South Africans who are dealing with the effects of Covid-19, rising inflation, interest rate hikes and significant fuel price increases. 						The Minister delivered some welcome news to South Africans yesterday when he announced that plans to hike taxes by R40 billion rand over the next four years, have been scrapped. This is largely attributed to a surge in tax revenue from mines, as well as a faster than expected recovery in VAT collections towards the end of last year.

						President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed South Africa for the fourth time on Thursday, 13 February 2020. The event commemorated the 30 year anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison. As of 1 March 2020, South Africans working abroad will have to comply with the amended laws on expat tax.
