Hi Tim, thanks for a wonderfully informative site.
On SARS eFilings my tax returns were different from that of what I have on my IRP5 mailed to me by my work, so I corrected it. Which came back as me owing R16000 to SARS so I disputed and loaded the original on, now it shows I'm entitled to a refund after R21000-16000.
I submitted documents as requested and I'm also for audit. My question is will they pick up that I made an error initially and not refund me for the entire amount...

Good morning Tim, on the 1st of July I submitted my tax return via e-filing, on Friday the 3rd of July the status changed to assessed and a note saying that I should receive my assessment in my inbox within 2 weeks. I have not been select for an audit and am due a refund. I called the SARS contact number yesterday and was informed that my tax return had been assessed and was completed, however I have still not received any refund from SARS. My banking details etc are correct, I am just a bit con...

I am an employed person and have no trouble doing my tax return with SARS e-filing. What I would like to know is the following: Since October 2013 I have been paying my Mom's medical aid, she is a 70 year old pensioner (state pension grant) and not registered for tax. She is not on my medical aid as it is more affordable to have a separate medical aid for her.
This year she received a tax certificate from her medical aid. Is there any way in which I can claim for her medical aid cont...

I submitted my tax return via efiling on 01 July. I was as per usual selected for audit. I received an initial assessment and upon submitting my supporting documents they obviously decided to disallow some of my medical expenses.
They then issued a revised assessment which reflected R5500 lower owing to me. I called the call centre and was told that my file was finalised and I could expect a refund date by yesterday 06/07/15.
I drew a statement of account yesterday and it showed a refund date of today 7th...

Good Day. I submitted my tax return on e-filing. I got an It34 stating an amount to be paid back to me. I then realised that their was a R4 difference on my laptop depreciation. I corrected it and resubmitted my Tax return (as they requested laptop invoice and figures need to match) I did the calculation and it showed about R4 less that I would be receiving back. But I then received another IT34 stating that I owed SARS R4. Which IT34 is correct? I changed an amount by R4 I can't possibly lo...

Hello
I am hoping you can help. A few things:
My retirement annuity reflects as code 3697 on my payslip. Is this normal, does it count the same as 4002?
I receive a car allowance, but my vehicle installments, insurance and petrol costs me more, is there a smarter way of doing this?
More than 50% of my salary was commission from a single employer this year. Can I still claim fuel,l insurance and depreciation although I have a car allowance? What other expenses can I legitimately claim (i.e entertainment, networking meetings etc. ) Can I claim for expenses my company have re-imbursed me for?...
