Hi Tim. I'm a freelance drama actor. I get paid around R3000 and am taxed at 25% each month. Do I get a percentage of my tax paid back, or all of it???

Hi, I use my car for work, and I don't receive a car allowance, I am only refunded for services and petrol, can I claim depreciation on the vehicle?

Tax Directive was 18%, but SARS taxed me at 25%. Why?

Hi Tim,

My income is based on a 100% commission, no salary and no benefits. I applied for a tax directive from SARS and received one at 18%. However, when I did my return I was taxed at 25%. What am I missing here?

As a contractor should I submit both IRP6 and an IT12 or just the IRP6's?

I'm an IT contractor and for 6 months at the start of 2013 I worked for a company in South Africa and was paid a fixed amount each month. I received a payslip and tax was deducted, however my tax number wasn't included on the payslip. I was asked to become a permanent employee after the 6 months but declined and subsequently left SA to work overseas on a contract where the money I earned was transferred to my SA bank account. I will be fulfilling a contract overseas for more than 183 days and more than 60 continuous days. I meet these requirements of s10(1)(o)(ii), but I am unsure if the section applies to once-off contracts with an overseas company. The contract will last for more than 10 months however. Does this make me an independent contractor?

I am an SA permanent resident spending 3-4 months per year in SA.

I have rental income from property in SA paid into my SA bank account.

I am also paid as an independent contractor by an SA company directly into my overseas bank account.

On my tax return:
I will claim the SA rental income and expenses.
Do I also declare the other income as foreign income with the associated overseas tax paid on it?...

I have submitted my second version of ITR12 documents (Version 1 I accidently clicked file instead of save ...yes stupid me ). I was told in a nice love letter "Requirement To Submit Supporting Documents". So I submitted the same day all my logbook pages (so much fun) and got a letter of completion yesterday

My question is: Are they done with my returns and when can I expect return.Does the version 2 of ITR12 auto trigger the "Requirement To Submit Supporting Documents" and do I have to wait 90 days? ...

I have a full time job and want to start doing some freelance work on the side but don't know how I would pay tax for both incomes. Do I need to register for provisional and non provisional tax? Will I need to submit tax forms for both or can I do them together as one tax form? Also if I don't do any freelance work for a few months do I still need to submit a return for that period?

Can I claim for the depreciation of my vehicle for which I get an allowance or is that included?

I get an allowance of R48 000 p.a and I incured costs of R75 000 inlcusive of the lease payment for the vehicle in my name. I also incured personal expenses of R765 not recovered from the medical aid. The SARS calculator retuned R9885. I dont think thats right.

I am a salaried professional employee of a private practice however in my spare time I locum and consult independent of the private practice. It is not a substantial amount of money but how do I go about declaring it in eFiling - not sure where to put it? Also can I then use my professional registration fee as tax deductible?

I am a freelancer in the film industry. I have been told that I can claim back for buying a house and renovating it. Is this true? I would also like to claim back for my car expenses. I have receipts for fuel and maintenance and my opening and closing kilometers for the tax year. I'm not sure how to fill in the log book though, do I need to fill in for each trip?
