Hi Tim, I have recently completed my tax return. I received a first assessment that said I owed SARS 7630 but I was selected for verification. After the verification process, I received another assessment that reflected R0 amount. But it appears I still owe the initial 7630. Firstly, I don't understand the different conclusions reached in the two assessments and why the first one appears to hold still. Second, my total taxable income for the year being assessed is unusual in the sense that it in...

Hi Tim... I was flagged for an audit and SARS also phoned for alternative documents. I have 2 questions. One is... SARS office says that after the email was send to the bookkeepers notifying us of the " audit" it takes 30-90 days to complete and that they are not allowed to take any longer than that. How true is this and two.... Based on what evidence can SARS refuse to pay out your refund to you? I have been submitting my tax return for the last 7 years now, always got my money within 2 weeks ...

I started with a new employer on 1 March 2014 and a full company vehicle is included in my package. Previously I neither had a company car, nor did I receive a travel allowance. My refund this year, as per my ITA34, is much more than in previous years. It seems that the company I work for also deducted almost R1000 per month too much fringe benefit tax from my salary if one compares the SARS calculation to the actual tax paid. I also did not log many private kilometres, since I am not office bound, as a sales rep, and often work from home...

Hi Tim,
I have submitted my tax return through SARS eFiling in the first week of July and was asked for supporting documents which I then took to SARS and my SARS eFiling reflected that they had been received, I heard nothing from SARS and then got a letter in early august saying ive been selected for audit. I heard nothing again and called SARS about 3 weeks back and was told my car value was lower than the estimated value and they require proof of purchase (which I originally gave...

I've been on the phone with SARS every week since I have submitted my 2015 tax return via SARS eFiling on the 31st July, that same day I was asked to submit supporting documents. All of my documents were submitted and on the 24th August I received a letter of completion and that SARS was happy. I then phoned SARS the next day asking when can I expect to receive my refund and a lady told me not soon at all due to an old tax return that needs to be resubmitted and so I did on the same day. Two wee...
