If I changed medical aids during the tax year, and my employer only started paying in December 2013, how do I answer the questions? Part of the tax year I was paying for medical aid, part of the year my employer was paying part.

Tim, I am an engineer and I want to take my family to South/ Central America and go work there for a few years for an international company. The aim is to make as much money as possible. Where do I find out details about my tax returns? I have personally never actually done my personal tax and I'm not sure if they have ever been done. Where can I found this information? What do I do from here? Can I find out if my business tax practitioner has been completing my personal tax as well.

Would I qualify for a Tax Refund if I earn R7000 a month before deductions?

I currently earn a salary of R7000 p.m before deductions. R199.50 is deducted every month for PAYE Tax and R70.00 for UIF.

Do I need to fill in a Tax Return form and would I qualify for any refund. I do not have any Medical Aid or Pension Fund,etc.

I'm not very clued up on all these things.

I have not been filing due to unemployemnt. But this year I have a very small job that will pay out about R30K and I recieve money for contract work to the tune of R100K 1) How much money should I keep aside for tax (approximately)2) Should I file a tax return. I currently earn R12650 R1391.50 shift allowance per month through my company. I will be getting an additional income R8085 from next month separate to my employer.

I have been working and earning an income below the tax threshold and my employer did not register me for PAYE or UIF, in the past 3 months my salary was increased but I was still not registered so have not being paying tax. I understand that the tax threshold in 2014 is 70700 Rand. In the financial year 2013/2014 I have earned only 55.000 Rand through freelance activities with different companies (I am a student). So my question is, will I have to try to bring the taxable income even more down (e.g. through claiming business expenses, medical expenses etc.) or do I need not bother as I am anyway below the threshold?

My wife received an Road accident fund settlement last year (2013) after she was injured as a passenger in a car accident some years ago. Our understanding is that this settlement amount is tax free and does not have to be declared (according to the attorneys). The question is, does this amount have to be indicated anywhere on either my wife's, or my income tax returns (i.e. under non taxable income section) since the money was deposited into her bank account. We are married in C.O.P
