How/where exactly does one get the IT3b and/or IT3c forms from and how do I know if I qualify for/need them? I have some minor money market investments, but am not sure if the interest earned on those is taxable as it is so little, so I'm not sure whether I need to submit these forms in the first place.
Do I need to manually request these from my bank/financial institutions or should they be sending them to me automatically?
If they are sent automatically, when should...

For the past 5 years I have been doing work over the 'internet' for an international company. Only now I have become aware of having to pay taxes. I am not registered. For the last 2 years I've received a steady income of R6 000 / month. I don't have a physical address or contact number for the company as we communicate through email. The company email me sketches of a building then I create a 3D model of the building and send it back.
How will paying taxes work for me ? Will there be pena...

I would really appreciate your advice on completing the medical expenses section on the 2012 ITR12.
We have large amount of both disability expenses and other medical expenses NOT paid by medical aid and am not sure how to complete the Medical Deductions section on the ITR12.
The certificate from the medical aid shows an amount not paid by them - where do I put this amount? Is it code 4020?
Do I need to split the other medical expenses incurred and not paid by the medical aid, into disability and other and show them separately, ie disability 4023 and other added to 4020?...

1. Is it possible to claim for depreciation for individually-purchased PC components? For example, if I purchased a monitor separately, or custom-built a PC (HDD, RAM, CPU, etc.). If so, would I use the "Computers: Personal" asset type when performing the calculations?2. If an asset is used for work non-exclusively, would I simply claim a percentage of the depreciation? For example, if a monitor cost R3000 and the deductable amount was R900 for the tax year, but I used it only 80% of t...

- I am a web developer.
- I use a separate room (a study) for work.
- My earnings are *not* commission-based.
- I pay rent for the study (to my parents)
- The study (and the PC etc.) is used /- 85% of the time for work purposes (therefore technically not "exclusively")
The requirements are very gray. Firstly, why must it be commission-based income? Secondly, why must it be exclusive-use if I could simply calculate business-use as a percentage? (for example, if I p...

I am in a pretty unique situation. I am 21 years old, I study through UNISA and have 2 real jobs during the week- both aupair positions.
I earn R3 000 from one and R6 500 from the other, I also get an additional R1 000 from my parents. My employer from the R6 500 job,has indicted that she has already registered me for PAYE, but doesn't deduct it from my salary as I fall below threshold.
Is there any other tax I should be registered for? if so, what tax and how do I go about...

My wife worked full time for Johannesburg General Hospital for 2011 and she started to work part time from the 1st of December 2011 for Doctor Gordon's practice. SARS has add the two salaries. Now my wife must pay R17 000. Her part time salary is about R5 000 or less a month. PAYE of R3438.75 has been deducted from the period 01/01/2012 to period 28/02/2012. Annual PAYE deduction tables dated 2011.03.01, shows that PAYE of R3438.75 falls between an annual salary of R78 840-R78 889. I have a feel...

Hi Tim, great website and good gen. SARS phoned me asking for a schedule of my deductions. I uploaded it and forgot to click on 'submit', then received a second assessment disallowing the deductions - probably because I didn't submit the document.
What do you suggest? If I lodge a notice of objection, will they allow the late submission of the document? How much should I explain to them - fall on their mercy regarding my mistake, or just assert that I am entitled to the deductions? <...
