What kind of supporting documents do I need as proof of my own medical expenses?

What kind of supporting documents do I need as proof for medical expenses out of my own pocket? I had hospital expenses where I received a statement indicating the amount paid by the medical aid and the amount I had to pay in. On the statement it shows the payments made by me (I made monthly payments).

Is this sufficient proof of my payments? What proof do I need for my monthly prescription medicine (my medical aid does not cover my medicine). I paid out of my own pocket each time.

Hi, I am a permanent resident in S. Africa since my retirement. The only income I have is my British state pension. Do I need to register with SARS in SA? Thanks.

Tax on Travel Reimbursement

Hi I travelled less than 8000km per year for business travel with my car and get reimbursed the AA rate by my employer via EFT payment. He doesn't add my travel claim to my gross salary for calculating PAYE. Must I pay tax on the travel claim money I received?

Have to submit tax return for 2007

I have been submitting my tax return since 2009 with no issues. I was audited last year as well as this year and recieved the ITSA notification to say the audit has been finalised and all is good. When I phoned to ask why has my credit amount due not been paid to me yet they say I need to do my tax return for 2007 which is 8 years ago. Why was this not an issue with the audit and no notification was given that 2007 is still outstanding?

You have been selected for audit/verification, then submit all supporting documents and later a letter for completion of audit issued but no money is paid after couple days. Does this mean that you are still verified somewhere on the system or payment is delayed for period of 21 days?

I've just started my first job as a finance intern and I earn R120 000 p/a. I do not have medical aid, I only have a pension fund, UIF and a union levy. I want to know if I should also register for SARS eFilling to submit my tax return. When does one have to submit a tax return?

How can I confirm when SARS has paid my tax refund and if there is anything that I need to do. I cannot see any relevant data on my SARS Efilling account and I am not flagged for audit but it has been 6 working days now. Please advise?

Verification of Income Tax Return

I am somewhat panicked after receiving a "Verification of Income Tax Return" notice and a "Request for Relevant Material" notice. The problem arose (I think) under amounts submitted to, but not recovered from, my medical aid. I have now submitted the certificate from my medical aid reflecting the amount, however, I still do not have access to my IRP5/IT3(a) from my employer. I am very worried as I have never had any issues with SARS.

Audit finalised

Hi Tim

My audit was finalized and I received confirmation of this via the SARS call centre and I received a IT34 for both 2012 and 2014 confirming everything was finalized and a completion letter for 2015, this was done on Friday. The also confirmed that my penalty was deducted from my refund and nothing is on hold on their side its just the payment that need to go through to my account. By when more of less will the refund be in my account?

Hi, I am renting out a property. I've used your easy questions to fill in all the necessary information regarding the income and expenses related to renting out that property, but I am not confident about what supporting documentation I require to keep on hand for the rental property. I have all the levy and rates invoices, rental agreements and legal costs invoices and the bank statements for the bond financing the property. I get these messages via e mail on a regular basis and is obviously a scam. Is this not illegal?

Hi. I have two IRP5 because I worked for two companies during FY2014/15. Upon completing my e-filling, I realized this at the certificate number on the system (SARS website) is different than the one the company gave me.

Is this possible and can I change the certificate number manually?

I submitted my Tax Return to SARS, on the 03/07/2015. On the same day I received the notification that I was yet again for a second year in a row being audited. Since it was the weekend I could only submit the required documents on the 06/07/2015.
