Hi Tim. Love the website!
So, what in essence is happening is: Unless your Over 65, Disabled, Very Sick and your Out of Pocket expenses are ridiculously high and your salary very low and you contribute to 50 dependents your not going to get your refund?
Does SARS realise that this is the one time per year that regular salary earners can look forward to getting something back and now they have very cunningly taken that away from them and put that money back into their own pockets?!

I recently underwent a Tax audit last year as I haven't regularly paid taxes for a few years. SARS did the audit and siad they owed me x ammount but I also owed the y ammount. They paid out the x ammount deducting their Y ammount from the balance and all was good. The end of last year and the this year they all of a sudden started deducting R1600 off my salary for some special tax owed.This was for about six to eight months of deductions I have just been to see them to submit this years Tax form...

Hi Tax Tim
Great website, very helpful over the last couple of months.
I am busy filling in my ITR12, and I have a lot of deductions, ie depreciation etc, but when I enter my medical aid contributions, (paid by myself, R 1900 per month), and I calculate my tax return, it shows in the 4008 field R0.00. Please advise how to make this amount come in to account and how does the new tax credit work in my case? Lastly, re-imbursive travel expenses, how do I deduct this? I travel some times f...

Hi Tim, I submitted my tax return via e-filing and my banking had changed so I punched in the latest details and SARS put on an audit. I then submitted my IRP5, Bank Statement, Log Book, Medical Certificate of which are the only documents that I can claim for. The Efiling status shows - Correction Filed and and Statement of Account Balance: R -8383.55 and Statement of Account: Assessed Tax. Do you think the audit will go bad?, I ask this because the old Tax practioner that I used to use called ...

I noticed my IRP5 had a new Code 4116 Medical Scheme Fees Tax Credit which I did put in my ITR12 amounting to R5520 as we are 2 Members of my medical aid. I then noticed in my ITA34 on the Assessment page under MEDICAL DEDUCTIONS under Code 4020 I am claiming R39597 for Medical Expenses not recovered from Medical BUT then under that in Description it shows;
Medical Tax Credits X4 -R22080.00
Q - My question is why its it showing X4 ?? as that amount would mean R5520 per 2 members per...
