I work in a dvd/ internet cafe, I only work 12 days a month and my salary is R1500. Is my salary supposed to be so low. My rent is R800.

I pay my wife's medical aid each month. I transfer the funds to her savings account and the medical aid deducts the premium from her account via debit order. May I claim for these payments on my tax return?

I want some clarification as I am confused after having spoken to SARS today. I queried the amount they say I owe for my 2013 Tax return. I am the sole director of a company. I travel extensively for business using my personal vehicle. My question is do I deduct vehicle expenses such as petrol, insurance, services etc.. through the company, or do I rather take these deductions into account in submitting my personal tax return?

Just a quick question, I was paying for a course myself that most companies send their employees on. This course ran over 12 weeks and is extremely expensive. Is it possible to claim this also from Tax?

What happens if SARS finds out about a casual gift(a watch) I have given to a friend. Will SARS investigate me for tax evasion if I have donated a watch valued at R23 000 to a friend and I have not declared any details relating to that donation on any tax returns. I'm aware that I would qualify for the R100 000 general exemption for donation.

If you underestimate your provisional tax in the August submission, but then are better able to more accurately estimate it in February, are you penalised for the under estimation in August? Furthermore, are there possibly any thresholds for underestimation in August which gives rise to a penalty, even if you accurately submit in February. Or is it is you're able to estimate accurately in February, that there are no penalties induced despite the underestimation in August?

I do not belong to a medical aid and was wondering do I put my out-of-pocket medical expenses under source code 4020 or 4040 ? Because the 4040 code is compulsory if you say yes to " did you incur any medical expenses" and in the other questions you say that it must be put in 4020 ? So must 0 be written under 4040 ?

I submitted my return on the 3rd July 2014, and still have not received my refund, I was requested to submit supporting docs which I did, I even went to the branch to submit the documents on the 11th July 2014, every time I call their call center i'm being told its still being assessed? why so long? I have medical aid, do they actually call the medical schemes to verify information with them or what?

Both my wife and I are employed taxpayers. Her gross salary is in the order of 24000/month and mine is in the order of 34000/month as of January 1st of next year (it's slightly less at the moment). Our medical aid payment is about R1900/month. Last year, I didn't get any benefit for this on my tax return, since the total contributions were less than 7.5% of my salary. I'm referring to your post on the 6th of August regarding the delay in the refunds. I was selected for audit/verification and submitted supporting docs on the 2nd of July. The 3rd I received a letter of completion that stated that no adjustments will be made and that the verification has been completed. Hi there. I've submitted my tax return. I received a notification that SARS has to verify my tax return. I've submitted all the necessary documentation. How long does this normally take, for them to verify and pay me?
