I have incurred legal costs for my parents who are dependent on me for support. This was done in my private capacity and there is no capital gain for me from it. Can I claim for this in my tax return?

I submitted my IRP5 today and the message state amount -R2184.06 due to you,but what I don't understand they gave me to dates of payment?

If you work for only two months does it count as your yearly income?

If you have worked only two months in the year (Jan and Feb 2014). And your employer deducted the full amount of PAYE as if you were working for the full 12 months, Will you be refunded the full amount of PAYE paid over to SARS as your Yearly income for 2014 is well below the threshold? Or does SARS allocate the income proportionately?

If I am to work in Swaziland for a South African based company earning ZAR , how would they tax me , I believe if you work out of the country for more than 63 days consecutively and for a minimum of 183 days p.a then earnings are tax exempt ?

What % of total income amounts do we show in each IRP6 to ensure the rebates can be claimed twice

Thanks for your tax articles. I have one basic question, please.

In the case of provisional tax paid for persons married in community or property, what income amounts does one enter into each IRP6 to ensure that one can claim the rebate twice. I have heard I should enter 100% of our total income in my IRP6 and 50% of that same income in my wife's IRP6?

Reimbursive Travel Allowance

I have received a reimbursive travel allowance however my company has not split it on my IRP5-its been put together will other allowances under tax code: 3713. what are the implications of this-is my tax being calculated correctly as I'm worried now that I can claim the "8000" non taxable deduction correctly.

Would my company have to issue me with a new IRP5 to reflect the amounts correctly?

I submitted my Tax Return and was subsequently advised that it has been selected for Audit and they requested several documents which I duly submitted.

A few days later I got a call from a Lady from the Alberton offices saying she was auditing my return and after verifying a couple of questions, she advised me that the return has now been assessed and she will forward it for quality checks. If the audit is complete and there was no adjustment, does it mean I will get my refund.

I was initially selected for audit. I submitted the documents and today I received a letter of completion saying my assessment has not changed. I then quickly ran the statement of account it now shows that I was not selected for audit. Does this mean I will receive my refund.

IRP5 from a company I don't work for anymore

How to calculate the deduction for a home office if you rent rather thank own the property?

How does the tax deduction work If I work from home and have a home office ( a room dedicated and equipped solely for my work ) when I rent the apartment rather than own it.

If I pay R6000 a month in rent for the apartment and the second bedroom of the apartment is my office and it takes up 15% of the total floor space?

Banking detail verification at SARS?

My banking details changed and I had to go into SARS to verify the banking details. Everything was done and I did sign the change off electronically. If I go into my SARS eFiling under banking details it still reflects processing? How long do they take to further verify the banking details and then process any refunds?

Hi Tim

I did my tax on the 03/07/2014 on eFiling, I submitted all forms needed for the IRP5. This is my first year doing taxes, what I don't understand is that they asked me for more documentation on Monday requesting my Medical Tax certificate, Claims history and my original IRP5 from my company. Retirement & Provident Withdrawal Tax Refund

Good day, on the 25 January 2014 I changed employment and had a withdrawal from my previous employees Retirement and Provident funds of approximately R57200.00 each and I only got approx R42000 deposited in my bank on each. I was taxed on both payouts but does not seem like I am getting a refund on them. On my ITR12 I can see the one payout from Liberty (R57200.00 on source code 3920) but not the other and my issue is that my total rebate is only R 74.00. I really dont think this seems right?

50% medical aid subs paid by company

If the company deducts 50% of my medical aid premium from my salary and they pay they other 50%- however they reflect this as perks tax on my salary slip- should I reflect this on my ITR12 or should I only reflect the 50% which is deducted monthly and also is reflected on my IRP5/ITR12
