I am a commission earner and familiar with submitting returns for petrol expenditure, medical aid and RA contributions. The only other expense that I have not claimed for is the use of my cell phone, which is used in majority for work purposes. I am a full time employed software engineer. I am looking at buying an Apple MacBook Pro Retina priced at R28000, from FNB for R1200 per month over 24 months. This purchase is in part for my work and in part for personal work. How do I determine if I qualify for the "Wear and Tear" tax deduction and for how much I will I qualify? With regards to be exempt from tax working outside of South Africa (the 183 and 60 day rule). I earn a salary per month and if I work outside SA I get an extra USD per diem which is tax free (S&T). My question is; can I claim the tax paid on my salary back if I make my days out of the country? Then also does the bank that my company use to pay my salary need to be from a bank outside SA to qualify for my salary tax exemption or is it irrelevant ?
