Fleet Cards

  Written by Marc

How should employer tax work on the following:

Employee uses a company fleet card for fuel cost. Example of the July:
July Fleet Card Balance of statement R3 500
Travel claim (1 000 km @ R2. 05 p/km) R2 050
Deduction from employee for private use of fleet card R1 450 (R3 500 - 2 050)

Under which IRP 5 code should the travel claim be?
Should it be 3702 because the employee pays back the private use of the fleet card therefore there is no fringe benefit.

Can I add a medical expenditure after I have eFiled?

  Written by Marc

I have been doing my mom's tax return. She had hearing aids which her medical aid did not pay for last year. She gave me the paperwork and asked me to submit. Which I did. She now just told me that she forgot about the hearing aids and would like to have them claimed back. Is this now possible? According to the SARS eFiling website the claim is done (she owes nothing and will get back nothing). Can I do something to submit this?

Medical aid contributions for Parents not on my membership

  Written by Marc

I currently pay for my parents medical aid. They are both pensioners and they do not submit tax returns to SARS. They are on their own medical aid membership, and I am on my own. So, my dad is the main member on his, with my mum as a dependant, and I am a main member on mine with my wife as a dependant. This is because my parents are on a different medical aid scheme then what I am on. SARS says that only the main member can claim for medical aid contributions, so that means that my dad must cla...

Provisional Tax - how to work it out?

  Written by Marc

New to provisional tax. We are working with an accountant but info is not forth-coming. Is the taxable amount worked out on:
Income less
Deductions / Expenses
= Taxable Income (i. E. We are taxed the percentage in that tax bracket)

i. E. The provisional tax amount is not just worked on your income?

Audit taking forever - now escalated ?

  Written by Evan

Hi guys, I submitted my tax return on the 1st July. My tax return was assessed and it was shown that a payout was due but I was selected for an Audit. After waiting 31 days I phoned and they acknowledged that this had taken longer than the stipulated time and escalated my query... I was told this could take a further 21 days???

Are we really at the mercy of the system or is there any other recourse we can take? (straight forward tax return - no vehicle allowance etc. )

Medical contribution codes

  Written by Marc

If my contribution towards medical aid is R1000, deducted from my salary, and the company pays the other R1000 (50/50) is the code 3810 then supposed to be R24,000?

My understanding is that code 4005 plus 4474 equals code 3810 or have I got it completely wrong?
