Legal methods for reducing commission tax?



I work in IT and I get paid my normal salary every month and on occasion. I'm also involved with projects where I earn commission. I don't actually know how my commission is calculated, but I'd like to know how I can get more of my commission paid to me instead of being taxed so highly. My Minimal expenses are i.e. calls and some driving around but I don't claim for it because it's usually a very small claim.

Capital Gains Tax: Two

Splitting medical aid contribution on a tax return



I'm the main member on our medical aid and the R3500.00 contribution gets deducted from my account. However, my husband reimburses me for his half (R1750.00) and essentially we each pay for our own medical aid. To what extent can we each list a medical aid contribution of R1750.00 on our tax return?

When can a taxpayer claim the tertiary tax rebate?



If a taxpayer turns 75 after 1 March 2017, does he/she get the benefit of the tertiary rebate in the February 2018 tax year, and does he/she have to already be 75 at the start of the tax year which would mean he/she can only get the rebate in the 2019 tax year?

Paying a nanny- is it claimable?



If you have a nanny can you claim for the wages you paid to her?

SARS Refund and sequestration



Why do I need to disclose my income tax number in my sequestration court application? Does this mean that I will not get any SARS refunds due to me whilst under sequestration?

Paypal and tax submissions



I'm permanently employed and I plan on making extra money through surveys and Paypal. How would I submit this to SARS? I've not done anything like this before and I wouldn't like to make an error with my tax return. And, would I have to declare the money if I don't actually take it from my Paypal account?

Is salary paid to secretary tax deductible



I'm a commission earner and I employ a secretary whom I pay R5000 p.m. - can I deduct this amount from my income when I do my tax return?

Mail Received: IT34



I received a mail from SARS: "An IT34 notice for the taxpayer listed below has been issued by SARS. Please log into the SARS eFiling system to view the IT34".

I'm not sure what this means.

Forgot to submit travel details



I have submitted my tax return, but I forgot to include the details for my travel allowance (3702), i.e. vehicle details and logbook details. An ITA34 was issued. How do I submit a revised tax return?

Registering as a Provisional Tax Payer?



I had freelance jobs and although I don't own my
own business/am not registered as a business. All but one of the freelance
jobs were taxed.
Should I register as a provisional tax payer? If so, how do I go about
doing this and what deductions can I make? e.g. Can I claim for Uber trips,
cellphone bills, wear and tear on my equipment (computer, camera) etc? If I

Medical expenses claimable without belonging to medical aid



SARS refuses to deduct my medical expenses (medical doctor prescriptions and formal medical procedures), if I didn't belong to any medical aid scheme. Just to add onto that, I paid all my medical costs myself.

Penalty Fees



I've recently had the misfortune of getting a tax penalty of over R16500.00 It was deducted from my provident fund without my knowledge. A further R7000.00 was deducted from the same provident fund pay out. Please advise me if I can dispute this after it has been deducted; if not I'm fine with it. However, I got a statement from SARS more than two weeks later referring to these penalties. I'm not sure what this statement means.

Tax for a Contractor working from home



We have a contractor that's working from home. He primarily does work for our company. How does tax work, do we need to submit an IRP5? We've been paying him directly without deducting any PAYE or TAX

Retirement Annuity Premiums




What's the exact deadline for annual Retirement Annuity (RA) contributions?



I make annual lump sum contributions to my RA. In order for my annual lump sum contribution to qualify for tax deductions for the current year, do I only need to make the payment for my RA before the end of February, or does my financial advisor need to have allocated the funds to my RA before the deadline? i.e. Can I still make a contribution at 23:59:59 on 28 February 2017 which will count towards the 2016/2017 tax year?

Hospital Plan Rebates



Can I claim medical rebates if I'm on a hospital plan only and not a full medical aid? SARS directly advised me that I cannot.
