Timeline for verification process with SARS?

My returns have been pulled for verification. Please explain the timeline for this process as I have uploaded all the supporting docs required?

It should take 30 working days and you will be issued with a Completion Letter from SARS signifying whether any changes have been made or not.

Just to clarify is a verification the same as an audit?

Yes it is, SARS calls it an audit, but then the letter received speaks of a verification, but it is just a check of information. A real audit would be SARS coming to your home and asking for a lot more documents.

To clarify again I have sent through all the supp docs for the verification/audit process,
which was on the 4th July. Tim how seen do you think I can expect a response or is there anyway to speed up this verification/audit process, as I am hoping my returns will not be dragged on for another couple of weeks.

There were major issues with the refund process last week which SARS have assured us have been sorted. You should receive a Completion Letter in the next couple of days and thereafter the refund a day or two later.

Hi Tim

Thanks for your response.
To date I havent had any response yet from SARs yet regarding my returns.

I have a tax practitioner who submits
my returns. Should I follow up with SARs or just be patient with the process?

The tax practitioner should be constantly following up with SARS and providing you with information whenever you contact them.

Hi Tim

My tax practitioner forwarded me a letter stating that my returns are going for audit last week an Friday.
Tim the last tax season I was also audited and comparitively my returns for this season is very similar in nature. So why the audit yet again?
Is this because I am a full commission earner and my submitted returns are of a reasonably high value,
How long does this process entail?

.

Yes, SARS are looking at that carefully. The audit should take 21 days to finalise assuming there are no issues.
