Is there any tax payable for funds (a donation) coming from overseas from my Dad (non-resident) to me in SA?

There is no tax payable on donations from a non-resident to a South African.
The only thing you have to watch out for is whether the original money came from a South African source to your father. However, if this is not South African money and was earned overseas then there will be no tax due.
