I only became aware of this when I went to file the following year and was informed that I owe them a large amount of money. They did not tell me that that I owed them money as a result of overpaying me. I found this out recently on my own. The amount is such that I will never have this money in one place again and the only time I can reasonably hope to pay this back is when I retire with my pension. Now as a result of a mistake that SARS made, I am snookered. In a recent judgement ABSA overpaid a client and was held accountable for the mistake in court when they tried to recover the money. Surely the taxman should be held to a higher standard than what the court system holds the banks? |
