I have a PTY(ltd) company and would like to know if I must register for PAYE. I am the only person/owner/director in the company with no employees who derives an annual gross Salary of R72000pa.

Yes, you will need to register your company for PAYE and UIF. As a company director, all payments to your self are deemed to be "salary" and will be subject to PAYE. An annual salary of R72,000 is below the tax threshold (currently R73,650) therefore won't be taxable however you will need to pay UIF to SARS.
