I would like to know whether the medical expenses listed on your certificate as "not covered or paid by your medical aid" is recoverable as "out of pocket" medical expenses whether they relate to medical consultations with specialists and part payment for hospital fees. In certain cases, these part payments were recovered from gap cover.

It must be the amount that you personally paid which the medical aid did not cover, who is your Gap cover with?

Hi Tim. I have gap cover with Sirago, who is not a medical scheme but a stated benefit policy in terms of the Short-term Insurance Act 53 of 1998.

These amount were personally paid for upfront, with receipts and proof of payments.

The GAP policy contributions are not tax deductible and therefore you can claim your full out of pocket medical expenditure.
