Can my employer get my tax number or should I?

I just completed my studies and I am going to start working at quite a large company next month (January 2014). Should I get my tax number myself or will they be able to do it?

They can apply for your tax number, but it is best to get one yourself which you can find out how to by clicking the link on How to get a SARS tax number
