Based on the above, is the audit still in progress

I submitted my Tax Return and was subsequently advised that it has been selected for Audit and they requested several documents which I duly submitted.

A few days later I got a call from a Lady from the Alberton offices saying she was auditing my return and after verifying a couple of questions, she advised me that the return has now been assessed and she will forward it for quality checks. When I check the efiling status it shows a negative balance of R 37 000 and indicates that the Return- Data sent to the ITS. Does it mean the audit is still not finalised or I they just waiting for someone to approve the audit?

You are now waiting for someone to approve the audit which should be a matter of days. Once they have finished you will receive a completion letter which should result in your refund being paid out in a few days.
