I don't have to pay tax, because I do not earn enough. I am not registered either and want to know why does my employer need my tax number to register me for UIF? Now they force me to go and register at SARS and I resigned a month ago.

Your UIF number is linked to your tax number and so that is why they are asking you for a tax number. It is always best to have a tax number even if you are earning under the threshold because many other institutions such as banks often ask for this.

Follow our step-by-step guide on how to obtain a tax number quite easily.
