I have been working overseas since January 2011. I have informed SARS and they have supplied me with an email stating that I have been de-registered from income tax. I have no other income in South Africa. Do I still need to submit a tax return every year?

Please double-check below to ensure you are a non-tax resident in South Africa.
Am I a tax resident of South Africa?

However, from what you have described it sounds like you are and therefore would only need to complete a Tax Return if you earn income from a South African source.

Thank you for your speedy reply

My dilemma lies in this...

I have not formally emigrated from South Africa but am a resident of the
country I work and live in whilst still holding a South African passport, being born in South Africa.

I have went through th link you sent and I am inbetween the yes and no options, obviously leaning more towards the no option.

So although I qualify for no tax on my salary. do I still need to submit a zero tax
return?

Very confused.

Thanks
