Entering Personal assets for the first time on ITR12

  Written by Marc

I am a member of a CC, and need to enter personal assets for my ITR12. This will be the first time that I will be entering the values of these assets, although I have held these assets for a couple of years. I am concerned that the increase from zero in previous years will trigger investigation by SARS, is this the case, or do I just enter everything now, and ensure everything is kept up to date going forward.

Can you help me with Provisional Tax return?

  Written by Marc

I am retired and my income is from Momentum who have invested my Pension Contributions when I retired. I always go to SARS to assist with my Return and was told last year that I am a provisional tax payer because of the savings I have and the interests I receive from these (over the allowed amount). I went to SARS to assist me with my first Provisional Tax Return in August 2012 & had to pay in R1000. I am very nervous to do Period 2 for 2012/2013. Are you able to assist me?

How do I get my IT3b and IT3c forms?

  Written by Marc

How/where exactly does one get the IT3b and/or IT3c forms from and how do I know if I qualify for/need them? I have some minor money market investments, but am not sure if the interest earned on those is taxable as it is so little, so I'm not sure whether I need to submit these forms in the first place.

Do I need to manually request these from my bank/financial institutions or should they be sending them to me automatically?

If they are sent automatically, when should...

Over the past years I went to great lengths to work out all my expenses for my provisional Tax return for my small, part-time therapy business and renting out a small flat. Please can you advise on how to complete medical expenses including disability on 2012 ITR12?

  Written by Marc

I would really appreciate your advice on completing the medical expenses section on the 2012 ITR12.

We have large amount of both disability expenses and other medical expenses NOT paid by medical aid and am not sure how to complete the Medical Deductions section on the ITR12.
The certificate from the medical aid shows an amount not paid by them - where do I put this amount? Is it code 4020?

Do I need to split the other medical expenses incurred and not paid by the medical aid, into disability and other and show them separately, ie disability 4023 and other added to 4020?...

How to calculate an asset depreciation calculation?

  Written by Marc

1. Is it possible to claim for depreciation for individually-purchased PC components? For example, if I purchased a monitor separately, or custom-built a PC (HDD, RAM, CPU, etc.). If so, would I use the "Computers: Personal" asset type when performing the calculations?2. If an asset is used for work non-exclusively, would I simply claim a percentage of the depreciation? For example, if a monitor cost R3000 and the deductable amount was R900 for the tax year, but I used it only 80% of t...

Am I entitled to claim home office expenses?

  Written by Marc

- I am a web developer.
- I use a separate room (a study) for work.
- My earnings are *not* commission-based.
- I pay rent for the study (to my parents)
- The study (and the PC etc.) is used /- 85% of the time for work purposes (therefore technically not "exclusively")

The requirements are very gray. Firstly, why must it be commission-based income? Secondly, why must it be exclusive-use if I could simply calculate business-use as a percentage? (for example, if I p...
