I was permanently employed at my previous employer for 8 years. I am with my current employer for 10 months now and have been retrenched. I was fortunate enough to find employment beginning immediately after my retrenchment.

My current earnings are R12k and will be the same at my next employment. How do I go about claiming for a tax credit ( changing jobs makes me applicable from what I've researched)? How do I do my next tax returns with two employer tax certificates (I think it's c...

Still waiting for a refund weeks after receipt of completion letter.

  Written by Marc

Hi TimI filed my wife's tax return on 20/11/2014. SARS then requested supporting documentation which we provided. In mid December they issued us with a completion letter stating that they would not be amending our return but that they retain the right to do so in the future. This was followed up with a Statement of Account on December 24th. We are yet, however, to receive any refund from SARS. When I log onto e-filing, the status says "Return - data submitted to ITS"I am unsure ho...

Can I cash out my UK pension in SA?

  Written by Marc

Hi, I've been living in the UK for 6 years and want to return to South Africa at the end of the year. I have a private pension here in the UK. It's not worth much - probably under £10,000. I would like to find a way to 'cash out' this pension in the most cost effective way. I'm nowhere near retirement age - I'm 33. From what I can find on the net, it seems like I would need to transfer the funds to an SA pension provider. Is this really required? Is there any way ar...

Are there ANY tax on foreign pensions ? (in the country of origin ?)

  Written by Marc

A widow whose husband was employed in Germany now lives in SA. She receives her late husband's pension. Germany want to back date tax on her pension paid to her in SA - back to 2006.
We are aware that there is no tax in SA on foreign pensions. Is it fair then to tell the German authorities that the widow taxpayer IS registered in SA for tax, so they must NOT tax the pension at source ?.
All the articles talk about no tax in SA on these pensions but don't seem to address the issue of w...

Do you pro-rata the threshold for provisional tax?

  Written by Marc

I started an allied medical practice in my own name in October 2014. I was not working prior to this. So far, I have collectively earned R22000. By the time the end of this tax year comes, I will not have reached the R70000 threshold. Does this mean that I do not need to submit a provisional return or should the threshold be adjusted pro-rata i.e because I have only worked for 5 months, the threshold would then be R29166?
