Why do I have an amount on my IRP5 under code 3698?

I just received my IRP5 today from my former employer and I have an amount under code 3698 which I believe is reserved for Gross Non-Retirement Funding Income.
Last Tax Year I was working outside the borders of South Africa and was in the local payroll only because I was in the local Medical Aid (I left my dependents in South Africa while working abroad), I did not receive any other income in South Africa.

From November 2011 to October 2012 I was assigned outside South Africa. And from November 2012 to March 2013 I was unemployed...

On your eFiling tax return you will need to include the amount earned under "other deductions" the s10(1)(o)(ii) -

Can I claim a portion of my foreign income as exempt?

Check the above link and see if it applies, if so you will have to submit supporting documents to SARS such as a contract from your employer stating the income earned and the periods out of the country so that the income can be exempt.

Thanks Tim but my original question was: Why do I have an amount on my IRP5 under code 3698?

For the income you earned whilst working. All income earned is classified as either gross retirement or gross non-retirement funding employment income on your IRP5. These are just totals that SARS uses to calculate certain amounts. What source codes appear next to the income section -3601?
