I would like to know what percentage I can claim for wear & tear on tools of my trade, per year? I am an environmental consultant and need to take not only my pc and mobile into the field but also binoculars, camera, anemometer, garmin gps, etc. . .

Please have a look at our Wear and Tear calculator to determine how much can be written off.

Oh my goodness! How is it that no Tax Consultant has ever told me about this Wear & Tear "feature"? Please, if you ARE a Tax Consultant, DO let your self-employed clients know about this... they will appreciate you so much more and recommend you to all of their friends.

I guess the responsibility lies with me in the end to find this out, but if you're paying somebody to do your Returns for you doesn't it stand to reason that they'd have your best interests at heart?
Ah well! Now I know about it - Thanks TaxTim - you've been very very helpful! :)

So glad we could assist!

Unfortunately you cannot claim personal expenses such as gym memberships.
