Hi Tim, I have submitted my tax returns from 2010 to date but did not from 2008 and 2009 as I thought I was below the earning bracket. I called SARS now and I am due for a refund but they want my tax return for 2008 and 2009. How do I go about doing this?
How much did you earn in these years? Were you employed?

If I remember clearly it was between R4000 - R6000

Do you have IRP5s or payslips for these years and do you know if PAYE was paid to SARS?
It looks like you were close to the threshold and would have paid a little tax.

I do not have any payslips or IRP'5 for that year. I also contacted the company that I worked for asking for the same info and they do not have it as well.
I am not sure if PAYE was paid to SARS.

Request the tax returns for 2008 and 2009 on SARS eFiling and check them to see if your IRP5s from these years have already been loaded. The information for these years may already be pre-populated in your tax returns.
If not, you can still submit your tax returns, however you will need go into SARS with your bank statements for 2008 and 2009 in order to prove your income. You will also need to go to the police and get a sworn affidavit stating that you cannot get your IRP5 and the reasons why.
