As a taxpayer, it's crucial that you're aware of scams that aim to defraud taxpayers. The
festive season is almost here and every year, criminals use people’s financial desperation to
enrich themselves.
So-called ‘tax experts’ will contact you with promises of making your life easier by securing
a tax refund on your behalf. When you use their services, they pocket your money and
disappear, never responding to your messages and calls.
SARS has received a flood of calls from victims of this scam in the past and is warning
taxpayers to be careful of people posing as tax experts.

Beware of the latest SMS scam saying taxpayers’ office return is yet to be filed and telling people to click on a link. Please ignore and don’t click on any links. If in doubt, please send an email to phishing@sars.gov.za. See an example of the latest scam - Scam - Office return SMS - 27 January 2023.
