Refund waiting period once selected for an audit

I filed my return on the 07th July 2014 via eFiling, immediately received my ITA34 and statement of account, I was requested to submit supporting docs immediately which I submitted on the 09th July via eFiling, I then received a call to resubmit these docs on the 21st July 2014, which I uploaded on the 24th July 2014 via eFiling. I received a notice letter for referral for an audit on 06th August 2014. I contacted the call center on the 01st August and they confirmed they received all documentation and the waiting period (for a refund) was 21 days as my return was still being assessed. My eFiling status says: "correction filed" to date and SARS status says: "Return - data submitted to ITS". I then contacted the call center again on the 15th August and was advised that the waiting period could be anytime between 21 days - 8 months as I was selected for an audit. When can I expect a refund and what is the exact waiting period? Today has been 21 days (business) since submission of my supporting docs for the second time (24th July 2014). Last year I was selected for an audit as well and the waiting period was exactly 3 months.

Please read our article on why you may have a delayed refund from SARS, this is latest information we have about their processes. We agree it is not acceptable and the taxpayer is left with little information. Ask SARS to let you know which stage you are in.
