Refund after audit - why are SARS taking so long?

I'm referring to your post on the 6th of August regarding the delay in the refunds. I was selected for audit/verification and submitted supporting docs on the 2nd of July. The 3rd I received a letter of completion that stated that no adjustments will be made and that the verification has been completed. After a week I phoned in to enquire about the refund and the call centre told me their is a special stopper on my account and that they will have to escalate the call to get the stopper removed. It is now 34 working days later and nothing has happened. How do I know that I have been selected for stage 2 as referred to in your post? My statement of account says that I have not been selected for Audit? I am currently confused and uncertain what to do. Your feedback will be appreciated.

That is very strange, the stopper should have been released by now. Could I ask you to contact SARS again and see what their reasoning is and let us know. I will try to assist from there.

I phoned SARS again to find out if there has been any progress regarding my refund and this time the consultant told me that the accounts department and refunds department are speaking to each other regarding the stopper on my account. He still cant give me any time line or any further feedback. This is really becoming ridiculous. I would really appreciate some guidance from you.

Unfortunately if this is where it is sitting the only thing you can do is request that they escalate the problem which may speed things up.
