Provisional tax payer - penatly?

I submitted my tax return and was informed by SARS that I should be a provisional tax payer. Because I didn't register, SARS wants to fine me over R400,000.
What is the possibility of having that fine rescinded - I had not been informed by my previous tax consultant of my obligation to register as a provisional tax payer, and now I am being fined for it?

You need to go into a SARS branch and speak with a consultant about submitting a dispute to this fine as it does seem unreasonable, unless the amount in question - your income - is in the millions of rand?

Yes, my income turned out to be measured in the millions of Rands, although it was unexpected and due to a fortunate investment. Do you think there is a possibility of having the penalty reduced in these circumstances, where I was let down by my previous tax practitioner who did not inform me of my necessary obligation?

SARS have become lenient in this regard and are willing to reduce penalties where there taxpayer pleads their case and can demonstrate no fault of their own so you would be able to try this route.
