Non-resident tax qualification and documentation

I am a South African citizen, employed by a South African company, which has subsidiaries across the continent. I am being paid out of South Africa, into a South African bank account. I have been seconded to work in East Africa for a year. On my salary, regular PAYE and UIF are being deducted. I plan to spend a minimum of 183 full days (including 60 consecutive full days) out of the country. What else do I need to qualify for the non-resident tax exemption? Are there any particular codes on my payslip/IRP5 required? Do regular codes apply, and I then apply for my refund? How do I claim my refund (i. E. What documentation will SARS require?)

Yes, your company should be putting source code 3651 onto your IRP5 for the income earned outside of South Africa. You will require a Letter from your employer stating your income and taxes paid and that you are able to work outside SA for the period as well as your passport pages in order to make this claim.
