Medical aid tax credits on my ITR12

Hi, I submitted documents for an audit. It has now been 24 working days and SARS can still not give me an answer. I was told to call back after 30 working days. My employer does not pay my medical aid, makes no contributions whatsoever, there is no tax credit for medical aid on my IRP5. Surely I am to be refunded as my tax was not adjusted to make provision for the tax credit. According to my IT34A I am to receive a refund, but was asked to submit documents as they have audited me.

Yes, since you do contribute to a medical aid it is likely that you will receive a tax refund as your total tax payable will be reduced by your medical aid tax credits.
You do mention however that your ITA34 (Tax Assessment) reflects that a refund is due so this does make sense.
Please see below for some reasons which may cause a possible delay in receiving your refund.
Why haven't I received my tax refund yet?

Thanks for your response. My banking details have not changed since 1994, every year I submit my tax returns and receive refunds. This is the first time there has been any query on my tax return. Could it be that I was just randomly selected for an audit? I don't cheat on my taxes and will never claim for something that I am not entitled do. I find your website very helpful. Thank you.

Audits happen to 1/4 taxpayers on average so it could be a random selection yes. However it should have been paid out by now. Let us know in 5 days if you have not received the refund yet.
