Medical aid deductions for tax purposes?

I noticed a deduction on my IRP5 under code 4005 - medical aid contributions. But my employer does not pay my medical aid - I pay the full amount myself after receiving my salary. I asked them about it and they claim that I get the tax benefit on my medical aid monthly. They don't show any deductions/income of this kind on my payslip.

So the account goes to you directly and comes off your bank account after your salary has been paid into your account?

Yes, that's correct. I pay my medical aid from my bank account after I received my salary and the account comes to me.

There shouldn't be anything appearing on your IRP5, ask you payroll officer if they have reduced your PAYE by the medical tax credit?
