Hi Tim,

I have never submitted an IRP5 form on my own before and very unfamiliar with how it all works.
I earn a gross salary of R87 000 per annum.
I spoke to a someone at the SARS contact centre this morning and they asked why I would want to submit a return if I don't earn more than R250 000 per annum, I explained because I pay for medical aid.
My medical aid contribution is R1 668 per month of which my employer pays 50% and I pay the other 50%. I don't really understand how the medical aid tax credits work, could you give me an idea of whether there is a possibility of me receiving anything back if I submit the return?

Have a look on your IRP5 and see if there are amounts next to the source code 3810,4005 and 4474? Also please ask your employer if they took your medical aid into account when working out the PAYE? If they did then you do not need to submit a return.
