Is the Medical Aid in your parents name? Are they financially dependent on you?

No, you will only receive money back from SARS if you have overpaid tax for the year under assessment. TaxTim will ask you all the relevant questions to ensure you include all the information completely and accurately in your Tax Return in order to maximise your refund in the event that you have overpaid tax for the year.

no they dont have a tax number. my question is will it be beneficial for her to register for tax if she is on pension.

Assuming you are earning an income and submit a Tax Return, it would make more sense for you to claim the benefit. If they are financially dependent on you, then you can claim the medical benefit in your own Tax Return.
You need to input the details from the Medical Aid Certificate into the Medical Section of your Tax Return.
Should SARS request supporting documents, you need to be able to justify that they are dependent on you and you therefore pay their Medical Aid and provide proof that you do so (i.e. bank statements and their Medical Aid Tax Certificate).
