How much tax should I pay on my second commission-based income?

I currently have two jobs. One as a teacher at a private school and one as a teacher in a township. At school I get a fixed salary and at the township I am paid according to the amount of hours worked per month. I am totally confused on how to work out my tax. Will I fall in another bracket by adding my "commission hours" or will they calculate it separately? Another thing I want to know is if I can have a logbook for petrol for the teaching in the township? The company who employed me at the township stated in my contract that I am responsible for my own tax. Also, should I pay UIF for my second job?

You would not be paying UIF on the second job. The extra income earned will be added to your other income and you will be taxed on the overall income. How much over the tax year did you earn from the additional work?

Thank you for the prompt response. The second income depends on the amount of hours per month, sometimes R5000 per month, sometimes R7000 per month. Let's work on an average of R6000 so R72000 for the whole year but I'm only starting with this second job this month.

You can make use of our SARS income tax calculator to work out the total tax you would owe for the year including the additional amount, subtract the PAYE paid and then that is the difference, or you can do it on a monthly basis.
