How long does it truly take to get a tax number?

I went to register on the 30th May 2013, some say it takes 4-6 weeks but the internet says 10 days so which is the correct one? When can I start calling SARS for my number?

It should take 10 working days from when you submitted the application so you can begin calling after those 10 days.
